Another piece of equipment that is customarily used in european style furniture making is a table saw with a sliding table. Unfortunately, these don't exactly come cheap. The sliding tables that are meant to attach to a regular table saw are often of poor accuracy and quality. Even if the quality is good, the table saw wasn't designed for them, so the sliding table doesn't get very close to the blade. The contraption I use is often referred to as a 'panel saw'. Whatever its called, I find it very useful. The 5-ply 3 8" plywood base as well as the fence go right up to the blade (I made it oversized and then just cut it off by running it across the saw). Instead of making the angle adjustable like it is on a miter gauge, I just made sure it was accurate. That way there is no worrying about whether the thing has been knocked out of alignment.
